Married Single Other – Episode 2: Dinner for Six

admin

Everyone knows Babs (Amanda Abbington) and Dickie (Dean Lennox Kelly) have great sex. Particularly Gina (Leila Mimmack), Babs’ 16 year old daughter, who sleeps in a room one cardboard-wall away from them. But great sex isn’t enough for Babs anymore, she needs financial security and Dickie has stacked up £4000 in unpaid credit.

Dickie hopes his problems with Babs will blow over by winning his way back into her heart and her bed, but for now he is forced to sleep in his newly purchased motorised-skip-slash-classic Winnebago.

Clint (Ralf Little) hasn’t heard from Abbey (Miranda Raison) since they kissed one week ago and it’s driving him crazy. He decides to ask the others for advice on how “nice guys” would take the fledgling relationship to the next level. Lillie suggests a dinner party but Clint is unconvinced.

When Abbey finally calls, Clint finds himself agreeing to cook dinner for her and his friends at his house that evening. Can Clint really learn to cook, change his image and lifelong habits, and convince Babs’ and Dickie to attend together before the day is out?

Meanwhile, Lillie (Lucy Davis) is shocked to discover she is suspended from work as her attacker, Mr Connelly (Neil Bell), is suing the shelter. Eddie (Shaun Dooley), as always, looks on the bright side and suggests she spends her time off planning for their wedding and sends Joe (Jack Scanlon) on an errand to buy a bookcase full of wedding magazines. Faced with planning the wedding or busying herself with something else, Lillie chooses the latter. Once there are no more chores for her to do at home she offers to help Clint get ready for his dinner party.

Joe is upset that Lillie doesn’t seem to want to work on the wedding arrangements and tells Eddie of his concern. Sparked by Dickie and Babs’ break up, Eddie becomes paranoid that Lillie has changed her mind about getting married.

With the evidence of Clint’s past skilfully removed by Lillie, and the food ordered at a local curry house, Clint is finally ready for his dinner party. Lillie and Eddie arrive first, followed closely by Dickie and Babs. Following a quick briefing from Clint on what to say and how to behave (or not to behave) the doorbell rings and a nervous Clint answers the door to Abbey.

The dinner party begins without a hitch and Abbey is impressed by the effort Clint has put into the evening. But just as everything seems to be going so well, events take a turn for the worse…
